STORY TIME

Story Time Mission

Our mission is to promote early literacy, pre-reading, and pre-school readiness for children of all ages. We encourage grown ups to sit with their children, participating in the activities as able. Storytime is lots of fun and children actively learn by watching modeled behavior. So, jump in and have fun with us!

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN!

The single most important thing you can do to prepare your children to read is to read to them every day. Research proves that children need to hear 1000 books before they begin to learn to read independently. Reading to children will increase their vocabulary and their listening and narrative skills.
Reading with children will also help to instill in them self-awareness, confidence and an understanding of their place in the world.

Literacy Tip:

Young children are naturally curious which makes this the perfect time to introduce science!  Children learn cause and effect, that important things can be learned from making mistakes, and that the world around them is always reacting.  Perhaps most importantly, they learn that science is fun!  It builds curiosity and brings new levels of understanding and connection building to their world. At this time in your child’s life, it is less important to explain what is happening and more important to let him/her discover and ask questions. More now than ever before, publishers are putting out great books with science concepts for the youngest of children.  Paired with a simple experiment or two, these resources are invaluable.  Be sure to check out the science section of our library for ideas.

    jump up and down,
    and have a seat!
    Goodbye Song
